Who could benefit from a screening?

Any 4 or 5 year prior to entering kindergarten. Reading ability is a direct correlate to academic success. There is set of skills that can be developed as a preschooler that’ll help ensure reading success. Skills such as rhyming, segmenting syllables, and sound/letter awareness all play a crucial role in learning to read.

How are children screened?

A speech-language pathologist or reading specialist will briefly assess your child's rhymying skills, sound/letter awareness (phonics), and print awareness.

Where can I have my child screened?

County Speech Centers in Mission Valley or Encinitas or by invitation to local pre-schools & community centers

What is the cost?

The cost of the screening is $40 and includes an individualized screening, teacher-interview for any concern areas, and follow-up with parents as desired.
