READING STARS

PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM

Reading STARS is a program designed to enhance early reading and spelling skills of children in Pre-Kindergarten by creating an awareness of speech sounds and their relationship to letters through multi-sensory channels. Children with teachers play fun-filled games and engage in activities that enhance reading readiness skills in an environment that is encouraging and supportive, allowing children to progress at their own pace.

Each day, children learn to feel, describe and label speech sounds and their corresponding letters through multi-sensory activities, including pre-writing tasks, songs, stories, crafts, and games. Reading STARS provides children with the phonological awareness skills that are the foundation to effective reading (decoding) and spelling (encoding). Our creative, interactive activities excite children to become engaged learners while having fun!

Foundations of Program :

Emergent readers learn about language, literature, and the alphabet simultaneously.

All activities should accommodate a developmental, emergent progression.

Structure of class should include “active exploration”.

Goals include:

  • concept and vocabulary growth
  • sound exploration
  • concept of word development
  • pre-literate writing
