Reading S.T.A.R.S. II
Sensory Training Approach to Reading and Spelling

Reading S.T.A.R.S. II is appropriate for children who already know how to read or have previously taken
Reading S.T.A.R.S I.

Reading S.T.A.R.S. I concepts are reinforced to ensure every child has a strong basis for moving ahead in the reading process, allowing age groups to mingle and role model their knowledge of phonological awareness to each other.

  • Children learn to recognize patterns in words auditorily and visually through rhyming, syllable segmentation, and manipulation of phonemes.
  • Children of varying abilities are able to be challenged with learning new words of various lengths during games of Bingo, Twister, Hopscotch, Steal the Bacon and more!
  • Books of various lengths are also created with developmentally appropriate expectations of sentence structure, story development and lengths. Books titled, “All About Me”, “Once When I Was…..”, My Reading S.T.A.R.S Journal”, “Down by the Bay”, and “My Joke Book” are just a few of the books children can create.
  • “Word Wizard”, a unique Reading S.T.A.R.S. game, reinforces the concept of segmenting words phoneme by phoneme and assigns a colored cube to each sound for children to blend and sound out words easily.
  • Small Group Time happens each day with a variety of activities offered, allowing children choices of Reading; Phonological Awareness Game playing, or Writing Time to finish individual books.
