Speech-Language and Hearing Screenings

Who could benefit from a screening?

Any child 2 to 5 years of age. Speech-language screenings are a brief assessment of a child’s speech sound production, language comprehension and expressive communication skills to determine if a detailed speech and language evaluation is necessary.

Where can I have my child screened?

We conduct screenings at one of our County Speech offices or by invitation to local preschools.

What is the cost?

The cost of the screening at preschools is $25 per child. It includes an individualized screening of your child’s speech/language skills and hearing, as well as written results and recommendations.

County Speech offers many great child-centered programs such as
Reading STARS, a Sensory Training Approach to Reading and Spelling, and
Wee Sign, a program that teaches ASL (American Sign Language) to families, educators and child care workers to enrich the development of speech and language in normally hearing and developing children.
